Time Demolishes
Opened in 1882, Cane Hill Asylum was seen by the Victorians as a fine example for the treatment of the mentally ill. With the capacity to hold over 2,000 patients, it served its community for over 100 years until changing policies meant its decline and final closure in 1991.
The disease of abandonment and the ageing of time have been hard on the hospital and the process of demolition has begun. These are my photos of the loss of a magnificent, if imposing, beast.
Laundry Ghosts
The industrial washing machines, laundry presses and extractor fans silent and still. The humidity coming from the rain outside.
The Offices
I seem to notice people more when they aren't there but the evidence of their presence remains.
The Chapel
Saddening that this beautiful architecture has been blocked from wider view and left to crumble for so long.
